Fresh rumors suggest that Apple will be discontinuing the MacBook Air lineup this year.
The Cupertino company is rumored to be unleash 2016 MacBook Pro in two sizes. One model is expected to feature a 13-inch screen whereas the other is rumored to arrive with a 15-inch display. The arrival of MacBook Pro 2016 models may result in the discontinuation of MacBook Air series, BGR reported.
Apple had released its first MacBook Air laptop in 2008 and its latest model was launched in 2015. The MacBook Air models have never featured Retina Display. Hence, rumors from the previous year have heavily hinted that the MacBook Air that would release this year would be featuring a Retina Display. However, fresh speculations of MacBook Pro 2016 indicate that its release may result in the axing of MacBook Air series.
The 2016 MacBook Pro models are expected to arrive with thinner chassis. Its weight will be similar to that of MacBook Air 2015. As far as the design of MacBook Pro 2016 is concerned, it is expected to appear similar to 12-inch MacBook from 2015. Rumors are claiming that Apple will be launching the 13-inch MacBook Pro 2016 instead of releasing Retina Display enabled MacBook Pro 2016.
Apple fans were expecting the company to announce iPad Air 3 this year to replace the iPad Air 2 from 2014. However, in March, the company released a 9.7-inch iPad, a smaller edition of the 12.9-inch iPad Pro that was released in September 2015. By the arrival of the new iPad Pro models, the company has retired the old iPad tablet series.
Apple is expected to adopt the same strategy to discontinue MacBook Air lineup. Rumors indicate that in this year, Apple will focus on releasing a 12-inch Retina MacBook as a successor for last year's model. It will be arriving with low-end specifications as compared to the 2016 MacBook Pro that will feature advanced specs and slimmer design.
Apple is currently silent on MacBook Pro 2016 specifications and features, but speculations indicate that its two models will be unleashed to the world through the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2016 event that will be held between June 13 to 17. The new MacBooks are speculated to arrive with touch-enabled keyboards that will be devoid of physical keys, Mashable reported.
