The game was expected to be released on February 14, 2017, but it was later pushed back by the game developer and publisher, Atlus. The developer has now confirmed that the release would be on April 4, 2017, in North America, and Europe. This news comes as a surprise to fans who have to deal with yet another setback.
Persona 5 was originally slated for a release in winter 2014 for the PlayStation 3. However, the date was postponed when it was announced that the game would be released for the PlayStation 4 as well during the PSX Experience 2015.
The new game is the long-awaited successor to Persona 4, which was released in 2008 for the PlayStation 2. Since its release, it has spawned several versions and spin-offs. It is unclear whether fans would be willing to wait even longer after the announcement of another delay.
Atlus said that the reason for the delay is so that they may ensure the quality of the game before it is introduced to the market. The developer has to check whether the English script for the game is on par with the Japanese script and that if it offers the same experience to players.
As a way to appease their loyal fans, Atlus will release a free DLC for the North American and European versions of Persona 5. Additionally, the art for the Persona 5 Take Your Heart Premium has been launched, and it includes a 4-inch plush toy, a schoolbag, and a copy of the game in a steel box. The game can be pre-ordered for $89.99.
