Five motherboard manufacturers showcased a total of 16 AM4-based motherboards that will support AMD's upcoming Ryzen desktop chips. All these new motherboards are based on the X300 and X370 chipsets, with the latter aimed at the high-end desktop market and enthusiasts grade consumers. On the other hand, the X300 chipset is tailored for small form factor computers using mini ITX motherboards.
ASRock, Gigabyte, and MSI each unveiled five AM4-based motherboards. Biostar introduced three motherboards, while Asus only had one model.
Despite some slight differences between the 16 motherboards, some of the common features among them are support for dual-channel DDR4 memory, NVMe devices, PCI Express 3.0, M.2 SATA, and USB 3.1 Gen1 and Gen2 support. All these motherboards will also include dedicated PCI Express lanes for USB, graphics, and data.
AMD also announced at CES that the company is working with 15 major cooler manufacturers and vendors as part of it's effort to design and develop high-end cooling solutions for the upcoming Ryzen processor.
According to PC World, AMD is expected to reveal the official lineup of its Ryzen desktop chips within the first quarter of 2017. Along with the release of the Ryzen chips, AMD is also expected to release AM4-based mother boards, and compatible cooling products to keep the new processors cool despite high-performance use.
In a statement acquired by Digital Trends, AMD senior vice president Jim Anderson said, "2017 will be an unforgettable year for AMD, its technology partners and the PC industry as a whole, and we're thrilled to kick off the year at CES by showing wide arrays of high-performance motherboard and PC designs from our OEM partners for whom the future is Ryzen."
