Samsung confirmed that it was working on the Android 7.0 Nougat firmware build for the S6 series in November last year. The company has provided an official rundown of devices which will receive the Android 7.0 Nougat update. The Galaxy Note 5 will likely follow as Samsung's most recent flagship phablet because of the Galaxy Note 7 debacle. The Galaxy A series should take precedence alongside the Galaxy Tabs. This order could be changed depending on software development results since delays, and other issues could arise.
The highly-anticipated Android 7.0 Nougat update is now being rolled out to the Samsung S7 and S7 Edge smartphones. Users in Europe and China have received the update with the United States and other regions expected to follow soon. It appears that the previously reported Jan. 17 release date was accurate as users around the world starting receiving the update on that date.
Based on the Wi-Fi Alliance certification, the Galaxy S6 seems to be the next smartphone to receive the Nougat. However, it does not mention the Edge models. The certification is for a Verizon unit, but the update is not limited to such model and even guarantees that the unlocked version will get the update soon as well. It is still unclear whether there will be an Android 7.0 Nougat beta program for the Galaxy S6.
Samsung did not provide an official timeline when these devices will get the Android 7.0 Nougat update, but it promises to roll it to all within the first half of 2017. There are speculations that the Samsung Galaxy S7 Active is next in line. The Galaxy S7 Active was recently seen running the Android 7.0 on Geekbench. This could mean that the update for the phone is on its way.
The Android Nougat will bring new features to devices, fix bugs and issues, and improve overall performance. It is said to bring a tweaked user interface with instant control toggles and space-efficient notifications. It comes with a quick switch and multi-window for excellent multitasking. There is a quick reply feature and notification bundling for a less cluttered control panel shade.
