The Google intelligent personal assistant functions similar to Apple iPhone's Siri. Google's Assistant helps users book dinner reservations and find easier traffic routes with just the use of voice commands.
The A.I. Software will likely come to the devices via a major update, rather than a small firmware update. Other cool features may come to last year's Nexus devices because a major software update usually brings more than one new feature along with several issue fixes and developments. There are speculations that the Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P Google Assistant will arrive with the next OS update, possibly the Android 7.1.2. Earlier reports suggested that the Google App beta version will include notable features for the Assistant like gesture and keyboard input support. It could also allow users to make payments through voice commands as well.
Meanwhile, Google Voice might finally get an update. Several users have reported seeing a banner ad in the Voice app, encouraging users to try the new version. The Voice update has been integrated into the Google Hangouts app. However, Google still maintains a separate Voice app for its messaging platform for both the Play Store and browser. Users may also be able to listen to voicemails and send text messages using the app.
Google Voice last received an update in 2014 and its users, who are mostly business people, have been surprised by the banner ad. It is interesting to note that the ad is being shown to only a group of users and not all. Those who saw the banner ad said that it comes with a link to a download page for the new version. The Google Voice update comes with a revamped UI especially for the desktop version which still had the old Gmail design language. It comes with a build that is closely integrated with Hangouts and other related Google messaging services such as Google Duo and Allo.
