Sony has unveiled its SF-G series, which is billed as the "World's Fastest SD Card," that could read data up to 300 MB/s and write up to 299 MB/s. The new SD Card will be released this Spring, and the price will most likely not fall below $60 for the 32 GB variant.

On its website, Sony announced that it will release three storage variants of the SF-G series. It will be available in 32GB, 64GB, and 128GB sizes. There are also high hopes of a 256GB soon if everything turns out well. The top speeds of 300 MB/s read supports a UHS-II interface - a feature which adds a second row of connecting pins for increased transfer rates, which can be used with a compatible hardware.

The SF-G series is a dream-come-true for many photo and video enthusiasts especially those who use 4K recording and does more intricate technical activities. Sony will also offer a special card reader, the MRW-S1, which can work properly with this new SD card to make use of its full potential of writing and reading speeds.

Another feature of the SF-G series SD card is its waterproof, shockproof, x-ray proof and temperature resistance that guarantees safety for your data and files. It will also come with Sony's file rescue software that will recover damaged or accidentally deleted files.

Aside from Sony, other SD card manufacturers have provided devices with top speed read and write capabilities in the market. SanDisk's Extreme PRO UHS-II can has a 300 MB/s read and 260 MB/s write speeds, similar to what a Lexar's Professional 2000x UHS-II can do. There is also a 32GB SanDisk Ultra Class 10 SDHC UHC-I having the capacity of 80 MB/s both for read and write, which cost $60. So expect Sony's SF-G series will be sold for a price way more than that.
