'Borderlands 3' might get a cross platform play support if Microsoft and Sony allow it. (YouTube)
"Borderlands 3," the confirmed newest installment to the highly acclaimed first-shooter franchise, was a no-show at the recently concluded PAX East 2017. Previous reports believed that Gearbox Software's 1.5-hour slot in the event will be spent discussing the game or will at least bring more official information about it, but as some have suspected, the developer kept silent.

According to The Bitbag, Gearbox only talked about other projects at their PAX East panel. While fans waited for an update about the development of "Borderlands 3," the studio spent the time for "Battleborn" and "Bulletstorm Fulll Clip Edition" news.
With that, fans are again disheartened because of the lack of official news regarding the much-awaited sequel. It has been five years since its predecessor was released, but it is still popular among gamers. As more and more amazing games are released, anytime now would be great timing for the new installment.
"Borderlands 3" was first confirmed in January 2015, Digital Trends reports, and was then confirmed to be in development in 2016. Fans kept waiting for other news regarding its release date, but amid numerous rumors, no one can say for sure.
Recently, Gearbox released a tech demo of the game running off of Unreal Engine 4. The video below does not show any gameplay or story, and only shows what "Borderlands 3" looks like in its early stages.
While it looks impressive, what players need to know is a time window for its release. Many are hoping for a 2017 launch, but as Gearbox is still mum on the subject, it may still be far from being finished.
There are some murmurs about "Borderlands 3" appearing in E3 2017 in June or at the Tokyo Game Show in September, but none of these has been confirmed by Gearbox yet. These rumors should be taken with a grain of salt for now.
