Google Nexus 6 owners recently rejoiced after the release of Android 7.1.1 a few days ago. It took quite a while for the update to come out. After its initial release, however, users have found that the new update has some major problems affecting calls between users. It seems that the new update has a speakerphone echo bug.

A lot of users have complained about experiencing identical problems. According to users, while on speakerphone call, the other person will hear an echo, squealing, or some other ghastly noise that is not pleasant thus disrupting the conversation. The issue can be traced to the mic. The sound coming from the speakerphone is likely feeding into it, and as a result, the person on the other line hear themselves. One remedy is to mute the mic, though it’s not useful.

Google has acknowledged the issue and passed it to its development team for action.

As of Sunday, March 12, 2017, according to multiple reports, a security update for the Nexus 6 released by Google has fixed the above speakerphone problem. However, reports also indicate that when the update was initially released, it failed the SafetyNet check hence breaking Android Pay.

Currently, Google has disabled SafetyNet on the security update while it is being fixed. Android Pay’s functionality is now restored. So far, the March security update does not appear to have other bugs.
