Alienware jumps into the VR-ready laptop game.
Alienware has long been known for its powerful gaming performance, championed by Intel. However, with the arrival of AMD Ryzen, interest for Dell's gaming laptop being powered by the Zen-based processor has surfaced online.
After the long wait for AMD Ryzen's specs, price, and release date, fans are now speculating of a potential update on the gaming laptop industry. Dell's gaming laptop could possibly incorporate the Zen-based architecture to their product as an alternative to the currently used Intel processors.

As a testament to the growing interest in such idea, a Reddit post discussed the possibility of AMD Ryzen on an Alienware. The primary interest for Ryzen to be part of the said gaming laptop has been rooted in the idea of a cheaper device, as it would be powered by a relatively cheaper processor than that of Intel.
This would not be the first time that the Zen architecture has been associated with one of Dell's flagship product. The possibility of it has been previously discussed by Computer World.
Based on the report, although Dell's Alienware and Falcon Northwest are dedicated to Intel chips, if demand for Ryzen CPU will arise, these companies could offer Ryzen chips in their gaming products. Apart from the growing interest for a budget friendly price, as expressed in sites like Reddit, the increasing popularity of AMD's 8-core processor could also start the shift.
As of the current writing, AMD's latest high-end Ryzen 7 processor is going toe-to-toe with Intel's cheapest 8-core chips, according to PC World. However, on the value aspect, there is a great difference between the $1,050 Core i7-6900K of Intel than that of the $330 Ryzen 7 1700 CPU by AMD. Thus, giving more room for gamers and enthusiasts to splurge their finances for a powerful GPU.
Under such circumstance, the increasing interest for AMD Ryzen on an Alienware is not an assurance that Dell will reduce their standards. However, Ryzen as an Intel alternative for gaming laptop will undoubtedly remain a strong marketing concept.
