There are two different ways in getting into the Ringed City. The one players will take depends on how far they have progressed in the main game and its first expansion, Ashes of Ariandel.
Players must be aware that the Ringed City is made a finale for a reason. FromSoftware suggests having characters at level 125 or higher if attempting to explore new areas and bosses. Furthermore, players cannot access the expansion's new environments until they have either defeated the main boss of Ashes of Ariandel or defeated the final boss of the main game given that they do not have the first expansion.
How to Access The Ringed City
If players have already finished the Ashes of Ariandel DLC, they need to make sure to converse with the painter in the attic of the Ariandel Chapel. They can access it by travelling to the bonfire, turning around and taking the ladder up to the attic. After which, they will need to fast-travel to the Sister Fried bonfire Just ahead, they will notice a new bonfire beneath an altar set flush against the wall. By Interacting with it will transport them to the Dreg Heap. This is the first area in the Ringed City. At the time of arrival, they will find themselves in front of the area's first bonfire which touching it will light it.
If the player does not have the Ashes of Ariandel or have not defeated its final boss, they must fight their way to the Kiln of the First Flame. Turn around and see a bonfire set just a few inches away. Touching it will lead to travelling to the Dreg Heap. That is two ways on how to access the Ringed City.
