Not known to everyone, laser technology is now widely used in various enterprise and industries apart from what most sci-films would portray. From medical to industrial field, the laser has helped shaped our world today.
The light amplification by stimulated emission of radiation or simply laser had seen enormous upgrades and improvements. It was in 1960 that physicist Theodore H. Maiman constructed the first laser using a cylinder of synthetic ruby, according to Photonics.

The following year, laser began appearing on the commercial market. Companies like Trion Instruments Inc., Perkin-Elmer and Spectra-Physics were significantly interested in such major scientific breakthrough.
The application of laser technology has spread through various fields and industries. In the medical field, it is used for cutting and cauterizing instrument. Furthermore, the said technological update is also being utilized during delicate surgery, according to Hyperphysics.
In the field of engineering and construction, the use of laser has been observed in field surveying and ranging. With the help of Helium-neon and semiconductor lasers, a surveyor's equipment has been made possible.
As an emphasis of its contribution to such field, both Apollo 11 and Apollo 14 used laser technology to measure distance in the open space. Therefore, making the use of laser going beyond our terrestrial boundaries.
In the communication industry, this type of technology is also being utilized by tech giants. The light signal being used in fiber optic cables makes use of the laser to send information from one point to another.
Even our simple activities make use of the laser technology. Supermarket scanners use helium-neon lasers to scan the universal barcodes to identify products. As a result of such functionality, grocery and related activities have become more convenient for most consumers.
The evolution and use of laser have seen a great leap since it was first invented. With the current technological advancements, there is no telling what men can do with laser and its unlocked features.
