AMD displays the initial specs of their AMD Ryzen Threadripper CPU.
Monster CPU war between AMD Threadripper and Intel Core i9 is expected this summer. It has been reported that AMD's 16-core CPU will be facing Intel's 12-core processor in the high-end desktop market.
AMD continues to challenge Intel with their latest innovations. After the release of AMD Ryzen 3, 5, and 7, it is now being reported that another Ryzen variant is underway. AMD confirmed recently that a 16-core, 32 thread CPU dubbed as the Threadripper is being developed by the Sunnyvale-based company.

As previously hinted by the company, new products will be released in the succeeding months of 2017. Devoid of any name prior to its announcement, the Threadripper has been assumed by many as Ryzen 9. However, the company reiterated that there is no number 9 in the nomenclature of their latest CPU lineup, according to PC World.
As of the current writing, the confirmed version of the upcoming CPU variant from AMD is that of the 16-core version. There is still no official confirmation about 14, 12, 10-core versions of the device. However, viewing it from the previous AMD Ryzen releases, lower variants may also follow.
Meanwhile, on the other side of the coin, Intel has also their Core i9 to offer. However, in contrast to the 16-core CPU of AMD, the Intel Core i9 is rumored to be a 12-core CPU using Skylake cores.
For hardcore enthusiasts, the number of cores would really matter, especially if you are into simultaneous rendering 3D, video, audio, and playing games. However, having a huge number of cores will not guarantee an almost gaming performance, for these CPUs are mainly designed for heavy-duty multitasking.
In terms of the price, there is still no update the CPU brand. However, it is expected that the Core i9 will likely be above the $1,500 price range. As for AMD, based on the previous releases, its price would typically be disruptive for Intel's market, possibly almost half of what Intel could offer.
