Common household sweeteners, like processed sugar, are some of the food ingredients that are being avoided by diabetics. In search of an alternative, honey is being introduced as the best alternative sweetener.
However, a recent study suggests that coconut palm sugar is healthier compared to honey. The sweet honey is with at least 5o glycemic index. The coconut palm sugar, on the other hand, is just with 35 glycemic index, according to Medical News Today.
The said health benefit of coconut sugar had increased its popularity over a period of time. More and more consumers are lured into purchasing coconut palm sugar than that of the regular sugar.
If you want to keep your fructose consumption as low as possible, then this new alternative is worth a try, according to Dr.Weil. However, experts suggest that when shopping for sugar, you should be cautious of its label.
There are some brands which tend to mix the ingredients with some cane sugar. As a tip for consumers and diabetics, purchasing a coconut palm sugar would entail a product description like "coconut crystals," "coconut sugar" or "coconut palm sugar" in the packaging.
As of the current writing, there are an estimated 382 million individuals suffering from diabetes. That is why food alternatives like sweetener are highly sought by health conscious individuals.
However, if you are suffering from a severe form of diabetes, it would still be better to consult your physician before making any changes to your diet. Expert's opinion should be valued before immersing into any food alternatives.
