Players may have to wait far longer than intended before they can play "Mirror's Edge Catalyst." Still, even with the new May release date, fans can still look forward to an earlier access to the game by way of a closed beta.

Electronic Arts and DICE have announced that a closed beta will be available for the PS4, Xbox One and PC platforms. This will be done in the same vein as "Star Wars Battlefront," where the beta was used to check on the multiplayer modes and ensure that everything goes smoothly at launch, PlayStation Blog reported.

Another bit of good news for players is that they are not required to preorder the game to access the closed beta. All that players need to do is sign up for the closed beta. The developer has not yet announced how exactly participant will be chosen to join the closed beta, but details are supposedly on their way.

Since it is a closed beta, not everyone will be able to access "Mirror's Edge Catalyst" despite signing up. Players may want to consider some things, such as their Internet connection, EA account and acceptance of some terms to get into the beta.

The announcement of the closed beta was accompanied by the release of a new trailer, seen below. It shows a glimpse of how fans can feel once they step into the shoes of Faith in "Mirror's Edge Catalyst."

"With this new trailer, you will get to know Faith better through glimpses of her amazing journey-from carefree thrill-seeker to true heroine. You'll also get a taste of what you'll experience as a Runner: unique free-running and combat in the stunning yet perilous city of Glass," said DICE Community Manager Vincent Vukovic to the publication.

Previously, the developer of Mirror's Edge Catalyst" has showcased a few digital works and tools that were used to create Faith Connors. Apart from the process of digital sculpting, a process that the developer had detailed to be not as different to how the usual art sculpting from art classes, DICE had also shared how they had tried to portray as Faith over at the official "Mirror's Edge Catalyst" website.

"An important factor was how to portray Faith's physicality, her skill, confidence and attitude in a dynamic manner, without her looking like a martial artist or super hero," said DICE's Per Haagensen.

Since there is a predecessor to work with, the artists have also tried to make her more mature as a character. Additionally, there should be enough mystery about her personality, so that first-time players of "Mirror's Edge Catalyst" will be interested in the events leading to the current game's setting.

"Mirror's Edge Catalyst" will come to the PS4, Xbox One and PC. It has received a three-month delay from its original Feb. 23 release date to the now May 24 launch.
