Devil May Cry is a video game series developed by Capcom and created by Hideki Kamiya. The series has three games and a reboot developed by Ninja Theory. (YouTube)
New updates for "Devil May Cry 5" will feature a possible surprise E3 2017 appearance and Capcom to continue the main series instead of "DmC: Devil May Cry."
It seems that the possibility of seeing "Devil May Cry 5" might happened in this year's Electronic Entertainment Expo event as Sony America CEO Shawn Layden told TIME in an interview that Japanese developer Capcom will make a comeback and even teased some major announcements that could be related to it.

So far, Capcom has showcased several video game titles like "Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite" and "Monster Hunter World," but has not yet featured "Devil May Cry 5" yet, although the series' protagonist Dante made it into the roster of the fourth "Marvel vs. Capcom" game.
Still, Capcom did promise to revive some of their old video game titles that have been dormant for several years ever since "Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite" was announced.
The "Devil May Cry" game series fits the bill as a dormant IP as the latest games in the series are remasters. The series has been considered “hard to continue” by many fans as the series creator, Hideki Kamiya, no longer works at Capcom.
However, game director Hideaki Itsuno tweeted last year that he will be working on a new video game title within the year, which also points to "Devil May Cry 5."
While it remains to be seen what Itsuno's new video game project could be "Devil May Cry 5," it is not out of the realm of possibilities since its has been a long time since Capcom made a sequel following Ninja Theory's version of the series, "DmC: Devil May Cry."
Ninja Theory downplayed the idea of "DmC: Devil May Cry 2" in the future stating that Capcom owns the IP in the first place, not to mention that the reboot never achieved the same status as the original series.
In order to kick off a project like that, Capcom would need to green light the project. Considering that "DmC" was a fan favorite, but not very profitable, the chances appear slim for a sequel, Gamerant reported.
With that in mind, will Capcom surprise fans with the announcement of "Devil May Cry 5" this E3 2017 week?
For now, Capcom mentioned that they want to expand their consumer business by regularly launching major titles in the global market, and by strengthening downloads such as full-games, additional contents, and catalog titles.
Gaming fans will likely wait for more updates on "Devil May Cry 5" soon.
