Xiaomi had released Mi 4 flagship smartphone in 2014 and it is only after 19 months that the company announced its successor model, Xiaomi Mi 5 on Feb. 24. Its major rivals, Samsung Galaxy S7 and LG G5 were announced on Feb. 21.
In February, it was revealed that the LG G5 had recorded a high score of 133,054. At that time, the Galaxy S7 with Exynos 8890 chipset onboard recorded a score of 116,668 points on AnTuTu. However, the Xiaomi Mi 5 was launched, the company's VP, Hugo Barra had revealed that the flagship smartphone had scored 142,084 on AnTuTu.
According to a review of the pre-production unit of LG G5 by Green bot, it has again recorded an impressive score of 138,907 on AnTuTu. However, it is still lower than the new AnTuTu score of Xiaomi Mi 5.
The Xiaomi Mi 5, Samsung Galaxy S7 and LG G5 all feature the same Snapdragon 820 SoC that is currently the most powerful mobile chipset from Qualcomm. The SD 820 on all the three smartphones are accompanied by 4 GB of RAM.
Even though these three smartphones carry similar specifications and features, one of the major differences that may assisted the Mi 5 to perform better on AnTuTu over its rival is the display resolution of the device. The Xiaomi Mi 5 comes with a 5.15-inch screen that offers a screen resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels.
On the other side, the Galaxy S7 and LG G5 come with respective screen of 5.1-inch and 5.3-inch. However, both of them support Quad HD resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels. Another influencing factor for AnTuTu benchmarks could be because of the different Android skin available on these smartphones even though they feature the same Android 6.0 Marshmallow OS.
The Xiaomi Mi 5 is quite popular among Xiaomi fans in the U.S. Currently, the company has no plans to start the sales of Xiaomi Mi 5 in the country. However, buyers can still avail it through third party retailers from China.
