Ideal Conceal Foldable Gun
A double-barreled handgun that folds into a cellphone-shaped box that fits into the palm of a person's hand might be released. After being folded into a square the smartphone-looking gun could fit into a person's back pocket. The patent for the two-shot handgun is still pending.
Ideal Conceal is the Minnesota startup that could manufacture the mini gun. Police departments are concerned because the .380 caliber pistol could be inconspicuously left in plain view since it looks like a mobile phone when folded up.

The company's website shares that the gun is designed to look like a smartphone and includes photos of the device. The trigger is hidden in the grip. However, clicking the safety one time converts the mini box into a small gun that is ready to fire, according to RT.
Ideal Conceal's website claims that the gun has a high velocity and accuracy. The company shares that the gun's target market is people who need to protect themselves and their family members quickly, in order to avoid becoming crime victims.
However, some security and law enforcement groups are concerned about the carry gun. Karl de la Guerra is in the security industry and believes the mini handgun could become a threat to police officers.
Police often report that unarmed citizens become shooting death victims because the officer or the general public believed that the suspect was reaching to grab a gun in their waistband. In other cases a toy gun looked like a real weapon.
For example, Jamar Nicholson was shot by a plainclothes officer in a Los Angeles alley when his replica gun was mistaken for a real weapon, according to Los Angeles Times. The LAPD claims police officers saw Nicholson pointing a gun at someone and did not drop the weapon when ordered to.
This is not the first fold-up pistol on the market including a folding revolver made by North American Arms. However, National Rifle Association (NRA) Museums director Jim Supica told CNN the difference is that Ideal Conceal's product does not look like a gun when folded into a small box.
The new phone-shaped carry gun will have a list price of $395 and hit the retail market in mid-2016.
