There are many who would love to see Twitter up the character limit, while many others have come out in support of it. In truth, the limit is one of Twitter's uniqueness, and we personally hope it stays that way for a long time to come.

Rumors of Twitter moving to increase the character limit came up back in 2015 when technology website, Re/Code, claimed that the social network was on the verge of doing so, but with the CEO coming out in support of the 140-character limit, we can finally put that rumor to rest now.

"It's staying. It's a good constraint for us and it allows for of-the-moment brevity," Dorsey said on NBC's Today Show, and reported by Fortune.

Nevertheless, anything can change and Twitter might decide to increase the limit in the future. It might boil down to a business decision to keep users interested, or it might just be due to the need to add more features. Whatever the case, it is inevitable and just a matter of time before the 140-character limit is no more.

Whenever that happens, we will likely see several new companies rise up in hopes to become the next Twitter by championing the 140-character count to those who would likely feel betrayed.

Twitter is one of the most used social network websites available today. It doesn't have a lot of features when compared to Facebook or Google Plus, and that is probably why it has become so successful over the years.

It simplicity grabs millions of users and keep them engaged for a long while. Not to mention, it is where movie stars and other celebrities go to promote content or bad mouth each other, and the Internet loves it. It's a fun place to be, this Twitter, and we hope it continues to be like this without ever transforming into a Facebook clone.
