Apple's new 4-inch iPhone SE and all other iPhone models, as well as Samsung's Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S7 are all getting price cuts at Walmart. The Apple smartphones have been discounted $150, while the latest Galaxy mobile phones have been slashed $150. For example, Apple fans can enjoy the brand new small-screen iPhone SE handset for a rock-bottom price of $299, or save a hundred bucks on the bigger iPhone 6 and iPhone 6s models launched during the past few years.

The new iPhone SE basically features the flagship iPhone 6s' internals in a smaller handset. It was unveiled at Apple's March event ahead of the larger iPhone 7 that is set to launch this year.

Walmart's smartphone sale started on April 1, Friday. It is important to note that the discount will be calculated into a Verizon, AT&T or Sprint customer's monthly installment plan so it cannot be used with subsidized prices connected to a 2-year contract, according to BGR. Unfortunately the smartphone deals will also not be available for T-Mobile subscribers or online purchases.    

Discounts on iPhone units are rare, although the iPhone 5c has received a price drop in the past. It could be argued that the SE is just a small version of 6s, but is still an excellent choice for shoppers looking for a high-end small iPhone at a lower price.

In fact, while the newest Apple smartphone has been compared to the iPhone 6s it contains many of the same parts as the iPhone 5s. A tear-down by iFixit shows that interchangeable parts include the LCD, front camera, speaker assembly, and SIM tray, according to Ars Technica.  

As a result, repair shops that can service iPhone 5s units should be able to find SE replacement parts for DIY fans. On the other hand, a 5s battery cannot be used to replace a SE power supply due to a different connector.  

Another disadvantage of purchasing the iPhone SE is that it also includes a 5s display panel. The touchscreen is not sub-standard but there is no boost in brightness, contrast, or color range.  

Walmart's handset promo is scheduled to run until the end of June 2016.
