With the company's entry into the US and other Western market, many tech analysts are curious as to what would be the next move for the Chinese electronics giant. There are speculations claiming that Huawei might, at some point, overtake Apple and Samsung as the world's leading manufacturer and developer of smartphones.
Huawei currently sits in the third spot, closely following Apple and Samsung. However, Huawei consumer device chief Richard Yu has publicly expressed his sentiments and plans towards upgrading the company's mainstream status by releasing more powerful yet affordable devices.
In a statement acquired by Daily Pakistan, Yu said, "We'll move up to number two and then number one very quickly. At the end, we'll be the world leader. Perhaps in three or four years."
Huawei top brass Guo Ping revealed that the company's revenues rose by as much as 35 percent in 2015. Based on year ender stats, Huawei was able to release up to 100 million units of smartphones for the whole year.
To jump start 2016, Huawei released its newest flagship smartphone dubbed the Mate 8 at the 2016 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. The device is thin at 7.9mm and extremely lightweight, weighing only 185 grams.
The Huawei Mate 8 boasts a 367 pixels per inch pixel density, the company claims to be the highest in the market. The Mate 8 comes in two versions depending on storage space and memory; one has 32GB storage space and 3GB internal memory, while the other one sports 64GB storage space and 4GB of RAM.
The Mate is available in four colors: Space Gray, Moonlight Silver, Champagne Gold and Mocha Brown. It runs on Huawei's own HiSilicon Kirin 950 octa-core processor which was launched in November 2015. The chipset also has a Mali T880 graphics processing unit.
The flagship smartphone has a 4000mAh battery pack which should be powerful enough to power the device for a full day on normal use. It sports the latest EMUI 4.0 skin which is built on top of Android 6.0 Marshmallow, according to Venture Beat.
