A new standing desk from Lian-Li not only helps to strengthen users' core and improve ergonomics but also functions as a PC case. The DK-04 provides a 47.2-inch (120-centimeter) by 29.5-inch (75- centimeter) large surface area, which allows for a tower desktop and 10 hard drives. In addition, the computer case also includes several fans that can be boosted with a liquid cooling kit.

The desktop's surface is made from tempered glass. This allows users to view the computer's internals while typing on the keyboard, and providing an easy way to look under the hood.

The front of the desk-case includes four USB 3.0 ports, HD audio input, disc drive bay, and dimmer for LED lighting. A control panel on the standing desk raises the desk's height up to 3.8 feet (1.1 meters). There are also four buttons to adjust the desk to height pre-sets.

The standing desk can also support high-end PC gaming. It includes 120-milimeter intake fans as well as four exhaust fans on the back. They can all be swapped out for water-cooling radiators.

DK-04 is made from aluminum and contains iron legs that can support a maximum of 220 pounds (100 kilograms).

The DK-04 is scheduled to go on sale on May 10 with a $1,500 price tag, according to Tech Crunch. However, that price point does not include the CPU accessories that transform the standing desk into a computer case.

A DK-04 prototype was unveiled at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2016 with a removable motherboard tray, according to PC World. It could also store long graphics cards up to 320 millimeters.

In related news, health researchers at the organization Cochrane recently concluded that while standing desks are popular, the health benefits they could provide is "uncertain." They reviewed 20 studies that included 2,174 participants in the United States and Europe.

The main problem they discovered is that people who use sit-stand desks only sat down between 30 minutes and 2 hours less. That only provided small health benefits.

Researchers also learned that steps taken to increase activity did not change workers' sitting time. That included taking a walk during break times. Lead researcher Nipun Shrestha explained that it is unclear if standing desks can reduce sitting time at workplaces.
