People play Pokemon Go on their smartphones on August 7, 2016 in Taipei, Taiwan.
Niantic Labs has finally released the Buddy Pokemon system for Pokemon Go. Using this system, players can choose a Pokemon to appear alongside a trainer's avatar on the profile screen. As the gamer walks with their buddy, they would find a candy that can be used to power up or evolve the Pokemon.

It is important to note that the Buddy Pokemon does not walk besides the avatar. However, they appear by the avatar's face icon at the bottom of the screen and on the information screen.
Players can select any Pokemon they like to be their buddy, but the choice should be made carefully. As opposed to choosing a Pokemon because it is beautiful to walk with, it is important to select what is needed for candy.
In case the Pokemon is topped out in the power up department and cannot be evolved, it would be useless to choose it for a buddy. A good choice for a buddy would be that one that needs a few more candies to evolve.
After deciding on which Pokemon to be your buddy, tap on the photo of your trainer avatar in the lower left-hand side of the screen. The next step is to tap on the Menu button, and then the buddy option found between Journal and Customize. The final step is to tap on the Pokemon chosen as the buddy.
Similar to hatching eggs, players should keep the game's screen open and in the foreground while walking to get candy. Different Pokemon have different distances required to walk before finding candy. A player walks less for common Pokemon, but rare one will require more walking before finding candy.
Tapping on the Buddy option again would enable a gamer to check on the progress of finding the candy. At the top of the screen, a player can see how far he or she walked the buddy and below the Pokemon's avatar, he or she would see the kilometers covered compared to the remaining distance to be covered.
After covering the right distance, a notification pops up on the screen to inform the player about the candy found.
