The Google I/O platform has been used by the company in the past to announce new versions of Android OS. The search engine giant has also used it to announce newer projects, new apps and updates on cloud products, NDTV reported. Here is what we can expect from the upcoming Google I/O Developer Conference in May:
Android N
Android N will be the new version of Android OS that will come out to replace last year's Marshmallow edition. It is expected to arrive with native support for multi-window feature. It may arrive with a new Dark theme and improvements to the battery management. Since newer Android smartphones are expected to launch with pressure touch-sensitive displays, the Android N is expected to carry support for it, Tech Times reported.
Project Tango
During the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2016 that was held earlier in this month, Google and Lenovo collaborated to reveal Project Tango smartphone. The device can be used to build 3D objects by using its depth camera and sensors. More details are expected to get revealed at the Google I/O 2016 event
Self-Driving Cars
Google is working on self-driving cars that can work safely in poor weather conditions. Since one of the testing cars met was involved in an accident last year, Google may reveal details on new safety features at upcoming Google I/O event. It is likely to announce third-party apps that could work on Android Auto for cars.
Project Ara
The Project Ara is the company's attempt towards building a modular smartphone that will allow users to easily upgrade to higher specs by replacing hardware components seamlessly. The search engine giant is expected to reveal more information on Project Ara at Google I/O 2016 event.
Other Announcements
The Google I/O 2016 event may also bring an update on Chrome OS. It is also expected to make announcement on second generation Google Glass. Rumors also indicate that it may reveal details on Google Cardboard, the cheapest virtual reality headset from the company. The search engine may also reveal information on Brillo and Weave, the OS designed for IoT devices.
