Qualcomm has announced the latest iteration of its Quick Charge technology.

The Quick Charge 4 is set for release for the first half of 2017. It will be released along with Qualcomm's new flagship processor, the Snapdragon 835. The new chip will be 10-nanometers and is based on a manufacturing technique from Samsung. The smaller chip will have millions of transistors, and it will be smaller than the diameter of a strand of human hair.

The Quick Charge 4 would provide five hours of battery life after five minutes of charging. The Quick Charge feature is built into the new Snapdragon chip. Qualcomm has not revealed the release date for the new chip.

The Quick Charge will boast of a number of features, but the biggest feature is heat management. This is a necessary feature because it will help prevent phones or tablets from overheating while charging. Overheating has been a big issue for smartphone users, and it was further thrust into the limelight with the exploding Samsung Note 7 smartphones.

Additionally, Qualcomm's Quick Charge 4 boasts of faster charging times and even better battery efficiency over previous generations of the Quick Charge. It will also keep the phone cooler by at least five degrees more than the previous model.

Qualcomm also aims to use Quick Charge 4 to power other devices such as table, VR headset, and even drones. This is a major step in the right direction as the company is looking to meet the growing demand for stronger, and more efficient batteries.
