A new Dota 2 character called the Monkey King has arrived via a major update for the game. The Dota 2 update is now available for Valve's free-to-play Multiplayer Online Battle Arena also known as MOBA.
The update comes with several significant changes. Patch 7.00 features an enhanced heads-up display, a completely redesigned and reworked interface and new pregame phases.
The new hero named Monkey King is a melee character who has disable and escape abilities in the carry position. His ultimate ability is Wukong's Command which allows him to blast a tuft of fur into the battlefield and prompt a team of monkey soldiers to help him in combat. Monkey King's innate power, mischief, transforms his appearance to deceive enemies by camouflaging into his surroundings.
Valve is also selling a map with a Monkey King theme separately, with special Arcana skins for the new hero.
The Hero Talent tree is considered to be a game-changing update. Players can use it to select talents for heroes at level 10, 15, 20 and 25. This adds powerful augmentations to their capabilities. Each hero has a set of talents to select from with special bonuses for each level.
The Patch 7.00 also comes with major interface changes, which enhances heads-up display (HUD) and gives players more vision of the map along with different ways to view what's happening in every game. Dota 2 hero control console now has more screen space for the new Hero Talent interface and Backpack slots which let heroes carry three more items for reserve. It can store receipts or other materials for a stronger end-game item.
Dota 2 also comes with Strategy Phase and Pick Phase which are two new battle approaches. In Pick Phase, gamers have a new selection screen which matches the Heroes gallery layout and makes it easier to use for common hero filters. Players can simply type the name to locate a hero with an in-game randomizer as well. In Strategy Phase, they have only 30 seconds to plan pregame strategies.
