US-based startup Sleep Number has unveiled a smart bed that learns the sleeper's bedtime routine and pre-heats the foot of the bed accordingly. The smart bed called "360 Smart Bed" also has a smart alarm that wakes users up during their desired wake-up time window.
In addition to its foot-warming capabilities, the Smart Bed also boasts of a couple of other advanced features:
Snore-no-more: The bed reads biometric cues to find out if the user is snoring. If he/she is, the dual-sided adjustable bed is designed to raise just the snorer's head to reduce the sound.
Self-adjusting mattress: the mattress settings change based on the user's sleep position. So, if the user happens to switch from his/her back to side during sleep, the SleepIQ software would notice and deflate the mattress slightly to optimize the comfort.
The 360 Smart Bed also comes with a SleepIQ app for Android and iPhone which means one can change the firmness settings of the mattress, check how well one slept the night before, and how well one have been sleeping for the past week and month. As part of SleepIQ's software, the 360 Smart Bed can also be integrated with products from Nest, Fitbit, and other manufacturers.
Besides being capable of loads of personalisations, SleepIQ can differentiate between when one is in bed but awake and when one is asleep.
Below is an example from Sleep Number's official 360 Smart Bed press release:
10:30 p.m. - The sleeper receives a sleep reminder via the SleepIQ app.
10:45 p.m. - Foot-warming feature automatically turns on before the sleeper goes to bed.
11 p.m. - The smart base adjusts itself to the sleeper's favorite position for reading in bed.
11 p.m. - 7:30 a.m. - ResponsiveAir technology constantly senses movements and adjusts mattress comfort during the night
1 a.m. - Snoring begins. the smart adjustable base raises head rest
4:30 a.m. - User gets out of bed (to check on a child or use the bathroom), under-bed lighting automatically turns on (lighting the way in the dark); then turns off when he/she returns to bed.
7:15 a.m. - SleepIQ technology rings wake-up alarm when user is in the lightest stage of sleep during desired wake-up time window.
Sleep Number plans to introduce 360 beds in stages throughout the year. While the team has not yet shared pricing details of the bed, Sleep Number will offer a variety of mattress and bases.
