South Korean multinational tech company LG Electronics unveiled its latest line of OLED and LCD displays at the 2016 Consumer Electronics Show. The company also showed off the first flexible and "rollable" OLED display.
First on the OLED side, the company unveiled a set of 77-inch and 65-inch 4K OLED TVs with High Dynamic Range that can easily rival high-end movie or theater screens. It also features some double sided displays which has plenty of commercial use and curved LCD panels that can fit in the interior of a car. Another interesting addition is the 55-inch OLED concept display that is as thin as a paper, according to Engadget.
The biggest highlight of LG's 2016 CES presentation is the 30R 18-inch rollable display. The tech company claims that the display can be rolled just like a typical newspaper. The same concept was introduced by LG in 2014, however, experts believe that the new prototype sports far better display resolution and may hit the market sooner the originally anticipated.
One major benefit of a rollable display is mobility. By folding the display into a smaller size, users can easily transport the display from one place to another without facing too much hassle. Even in today's standard of lightweight and ultra-thin displays, moving a TV or monitor from one place to another is a far complicated feat to complete.
Flexible displays and screens have been the eye-candy of many electronic trade shows. Over the past couple of years, tech companies like LG and Samsung have been the forerunner of the flexible display technology.
Back in 2014, LG said that the company should be able to ship 60-inch flexible TV with 4K resolution by 2017, according to Mashable.
