The "WWE 2K's" label revealed the introduction of SuperTokens of WWE in March 2016. These tokens are a new way of combining the physical collectibles with digital mobile games. This is done in order to create higher sales for the gaming companies.
The WWE Super Tokens are objects of the shape of a coin that connects to any Android device via NFC (Near Field Communication). In-game material is provided by these tokens for WWE SuperCard, the popular card-battle game of 2K. The devices followed this trend that started with Skylanders in 2011, where toys and digital games were blended.
WWE 2K's marketing Vice President Chris Snyder said, "From the time the WWE SuperCard was introduced, in Aug 2014, it has grown to be the largest mobile video game in the history of 2K and WWE. It has fascinated fans with its wide range of collectible cards, different team-based action and quick play." Also, "The most recent partnership of 2K with the GameStop delivers restricted edition content with WWE Super Tokens. This provides interesting opportunities to expand the experience of mobile gaming via a market platform and attain a vast audience," he said.
The limited edition SuperToken provides a listing of WWE talent with 10 collectible tokens. It comprises the WWE Superstars - Roman Reigns, John Cena, Dean Ambrose, Brock Lesnar and also Diva Paige. Each of these tokens, costing $7, produces three cards in WWE SuperCard. The three cards include - an Ultra Rare card that features the probability of the WWE Superstar or Diva present and two Rare Mystery cards. Then, the tokens are allowed to be distributed three times maximum, giving other people a Super Rare card access of the featured WWE superstar/Diva. Each of the tokens also has a specific distribution quantity that makes some accesses rarer than the others.
