Microsoft's smart digital assistant Cortana is coming to Nissan and BMW cars. Just one day after teasing about the possibility of a Nissan and Microsoft partnership, the Japanese automaker has announced its plans to integrate the tech giant's digital assistant into some of its vehicles. Nissan's announcement comes after BMW announced a similar plan to integrate Cortana into some of its car models.

Both BMW and Nissan will work directly with Microsoft on its Connected Vehicle Platform. This platform utilizes several suites and tools including Office 365, Skype, Cortana, and Azure, according to Bloomberg.
Taking the stage at this year's Consumer Electronics Show, Nissan demonstrated how Cortana would be integrated into its cars. Nissan shared a concept video highlighting some of Cortana's calendar integration as well as its ability to suggest shortcuts to destinations and maps.
On the other hand, BMW plans to integrate Cortana features into its car's dashboard. This will allow users to access their to-do lists, reminders, news, as well as other Cortana features.
Microsoft said that the company plans to preview its Connected Vehicle Platform later this year. The company is also open to other automakers testing its platform to help in the development of autonomous cars.
In a statement acquired by The Verge, Microsoft business development executive Peggy Johnson said, "Microsoft is not building its own connected car. Instead, we want to help automakers create connected car solutions that fit seamlessly with their brands."
Aside from connected cars, Microsoft is also expanding its Cortana features to other Internet of Things devices. Microsoft said that it is planning to integrate Cortana into toasters, thermostats, and refrigerators in the future.
Both BMW and Nissan are yet to confirm when they are planning to roll out Cortana features to their cars. The two automakers also did not confirm which car models will support Cortana in the future.
