Mars
Mars, known as the Red Planet has shown several evidences of ancient life, although buried under tons of dusts and rocks. Studies have revealed that Mars is a dry and very hot planet with a harsh environment, that it is impossible to sustain life. If ever there is still life at present, these must have gone down very deep to shelter and protect themselves.

With a thin atmosphere, as early as 4.1 billion years ago, the red planet has experienced cosmic radiation that resulted to the decline and destruction of its environment. According to LiveScience, life on "Mars" may have been present during the Noachian period that is 4.1 billion to 3.7 billion of years ago. In various expeditions to the red planet, there are evidences that there were areas, which could have been habitable.
Mars has been discovered to have abundant gases like carbon dioxide, nitrogen dioxide, hydrochloric acid and methane. These are building blocks of life, including the river deltas, ancient tsunami deposits and ancient oceans. Space has reported that the Martian explorations conducted by orbiters, landers and the rovers, feedback to Earth the information on liquid surface water in the red planet.

Comparing Earth and Mars, there is a big difference between the two planets environment. Earth as seen from above is teeming with life. On the contrary, Mars did not show any form of life in the present. To look for life in Mars is to understand as well the Earth analog that is the Noachian period of Mars is the Earth's Archean eon about 4 to 2 billion years ago. At that time, Earth has only primitive and single celled organisms inhabiting the planet.
There will be more advanced explorations on Mars by 2020 to study on possible habitable areas. By then, evidences will have clearer pictures and resolutions to help in better understanding the Martian environment.
