Different brands of synthetic marijuana are placed on display.
Synthetic marijuana drug could be the next big thing in the booming cannabis industry. Despite the ongoing debates concerning marijuana legalization and use, an approval has been obtained for the production of the said alternative drug.
Insys Therapeutics, a pharmaceutical company, has been given an approval by the US Drug Enforcement Agency or DEA to produce Syndros, the synthetic cannabis, according to NewsWeek. The report of approval came after it was revealed by The Washington Post that Insys Therapeutics funded almost 10 percent of an anti-marijuana campaign by Arizonans for Responsible Drug Policy.

In view of the given facts and the recent action of the DEA, various criticism proliferated online. The drug agency's approval of the synthetic alternative highlights the hypocrisy of the agency, according to ATTN. The report expressed that in the eyes of the DEA, "not all weed is created equal."
The leniency concerning the approval of the Synthetic marijuana drug known as Syndros has been associated by the DEA with the FDA's identification of the product's medical value. This, of course, is in direct contrast to undetermined and unsupported medical benefits of Syndros organic counterpart.
After the preliminary approval of Syndros, the DEA has been reported to have listed the synthetic weed and its generic versions as Schedule II under the Controlled Substance Act. This would mean that fewer restrictions are being attributed to the said substance as compared to the Schedule 1 classification where cannabis belongs.
With the potential mass production and the wide release of the synthetic alternative, it is being feared by some experts and politicians that overdose incidents could increase. Based on a July 2016 data, in New York alone 30 individuals overdoses using synthetic marijuana drugs. Therefore, highlighting the potential danger of the said drug in contrast to the organic version of it.
