Users of AMD Ryzen and the latest Intel processor will face some difficulties concerning Microsoft Windows update. The particular concern will be experienced by users with OS Windows 7 or 8.1 OS.

It has been announced by Microsoft last year that there will be a major change on how Windows will be supported. It seems like the realization of such pronouncement has finally arrived, for users of the news chips still running Windows 7 and 8.1 will not be able to enjoy significant updates.

Microsoft has recently revealed that Windows update will be blocked for old versions of OS using new CPUs. The Windows block will affect users with Intel 7th Generation Kaby Lake, Intel 6th Generation Skylake (at a later date), AMD Ryzen, AMD Bristol Ridge, and Qualcomm Snapdragon 8996, according to GameSpot. 

As of the current writing, it is only Window 10 that is receiving a meaningful feature development, according to Ars Technica. Window 8.1 users may still receive some security fixes and updates, but it will only last until 2023. Therefore, still necessitating an operating system upgrade.

Microsoft will be firm with the restrictions they will be making, but its effect is yet to be fully implemented. There are still some updates being received by the said OS despite the use of latest processors like that of the AMD Ryzen and Kaby Lake systems.

If such move will take effect sooner, this would mean that majority of Windows users will have to upgrade swiftly. It has been reported that 35 percent of Steam users are still running Window 7, while 8 percent of them are using Window 8.1 version.

It is good to note that users will likely encounter signs of changes to Windows support in a manner of an "Unsupported Hardware" prompt. This will include a warning of your system missing critical security updates, and link on how to address the situation.
