The Ransomware affected systems have cost IT companies much more than a ransom amount. The attacked systems shut down making it inaccessible for the companies for day, and it costs the company a huge amount to recover the lost data.
As per sources, FBI asks help from U.S. Businesses and the experts of software security to fight this dangerous virus. The ecommerce Times tells about the ransomware, hacking, how companies have been affected and the encryption safety steps incorporated by companies.

According to a survey of about 300 IT consultants, about 72 percent of the companies that were attacked by ransomware faced downtime for long hours. They were unable to retrieve their data for 2 days, and 32 percent of them faced this issue for 5 days and even more. The senior VP at Intermedia's security products, Richard Walters, said that when such downtime occurs in companies with multiple users, it costs the company a huge amount.
This amount is equivalent to the ransom demanded by the cyber criminals. Even with good precautions taken to protect and back up the data, it takes days to restore the data after getting rid of the infected systems completely. If the companies decide to pay ransom to get the data back from the criminals, there are chances that they will be cheated again.
Today, a lot of companies that handle payment cards have migrated to EMV. To make the payment cards more secure, EMV is incorporated. It adds another layer of security to the cards, hence making it difficult for anybody to make a copy of it or get access without the right authentication. Constantly changing CVV on the back of the cards is another solution applied by companies. Security from ransomware is still a big problem and efforts are being made to protect systems from attacks.
