Instagram has planned to make changes in the way posts appear on the feed, and it is going to be implemented very soon. Instead of the old chronological order, it is now going to display posts with maximum likes and shares first.

Instagram wants to make this change in order to keep the interest of its users. It feels that the chronological order of displaying posts seems too tidy and boring. So like the other social media sites, Instagram is coming in line with the latest trend with its new optimization algorithm. This comes as a solution for users facing problem of having to access untidy timelines every time they login. Users tend to miss almost 70 percent of the posts that are relevant to them. Hence, this algorithm is an effort by the company to display posts to users that are most important to them. This will also help the company have a good position in advertising.

The order of posts, which includes photos and videos, is going to be based mostly on the user's relationship with the person, his/her interest in the content and the post timeliness. So at times of bad network or other problems, Instagram is going to make sure that the posts that user keeps double-tapping on will appear as soon as user gets back to good network.

As per The New York Times report, the process of optimization adopted by Instagram depends a little on machine learning, the metrics used are not clear though. The company said that all the posts are going to have their original timestamps, though their order of appearance on the feed is going to differ. Users are also free to give their feedback on this program as when they use it. However, the change is a challenge for Instagram advertisers.
